Link building SEO services: an honest take.
By Vijay Ara, Founder, BizIntegra Truro, Nova Scotia Updated October 25, 2026
We do not sell links, and you should be wary of any link building SEO company that sells them by the pack. Here is what earns links that help, what gets sites penalized, and what a small business can do itself.

Our position, up front
We do not sell backlink packages. If you are shopping for an SEO links service that promises a set number of links a month, we are not that, and we would rather say so before you spend time on a call.
That is not because links do not matter. They do. It is because the links worth having are hard to order in bulk, and the ones that can be ordered in bulk tend to cause problems.
What a good link actually is
A good link is a real site that has a real reason to point at you, read by real people who might click. A supplier mentioning you, a local newspaper quoting you, a trade association listing you, a customer writing about a project.
Relevance and trust matter more than count. Three links from sites your customers already read can outweigh three hundred from sites nobody visits.
Context matters too. A link inside a useful paragraph that a real editor chose is worth far more than one in a footer or a list of sponsors. Anchor text should read naturally; a page that suddenly collects fifty identical keyword links looks manufactured, because it is.
Local businesses have an advantage here. Your town has a chamber, a newspaper, a minor hockey club and a handful of suppliers, and each can point to you for reasons that need no explanation to a search engine or a customer.
What to avoid
Skip bought links, private blog networks, link exchanges at scale, comment spam and directories that accept anyone with a card. Google's own spam policies treat paid link schemes as a violation, and the risk is yours, not the seller's.
Warning signs in a pitch from any seo link building agency: a guaranteed number of links, a domain rating as the headline metric, no list of where links will appear, and a price that is oddly low. If you cannot see the sites before the links go live, assume you would not want to be seen on them.
Cleaning up afterwards is slow. Disavowing and removing bad links can take months and still leave a gap.
What earns links for a small business
Start with things that already exist. Claim your Google Business Profile, supplier pages, chamber of commerce, industry associations and local sponsorship pages. These are legitimate and often free.
Then make something worth citing. A pricing explainer, a local data point you collected, a how-to with photographs of your actual work, a tool or calculator. A page like that gets linked because it answers a question better than what existed.
Finally, ask. Past customers, partners and suppliers with websites will often add a link if you ask politely and make it easy. One short email with the exact page and a suggested sentence works better than a template blast.
Before links, fix the site
Links amplify what is there. If your pages are slow, duplicated or hard to crawl, new links will not rescue them. Check canonicals, redirects, internal links and page speed first. We cover that under technical SEO.
Also check what you already have. Broken inbound links, where someone linked to a page you deleted, are an easy win: redirect the old URL to the closest live page and the link starts working again. Search Console lists who links to you, so start there.
How to tell whether links are working
Do not judge link work by a count. Look at referral traffic from the linking pages, at whether the linked page gained impressions in Search Console over the following months, and at whether enquiries mention where people found you.
Be patient. A good link can take weeks to be recognized, and the effect on a competitive term is usually slow. If someone promises movement in a fortnight, they are selling hope.
Keep a simple sheet: who linked, which page, when, and how it came about. It protects you if you ever have to untangle a mess, and it shows which kinds of outreach actually pay off for your business.
If you resell: link building services for SEO agencies
Agencies sometimes ask for link building services for SEO agencies to resell. We do not supply links for that purpose. We do work with agencies on audits, technical fixes and content under their own name, which is a different thing; see our white-label page.
If links are the main thing you need, a digital PR specialist is a better fit than us, and we would rather tell you that than take the job.
Questions
Do I need link building to rank?
For local searches, often much less than people think; a complete Google Business Profile and a solid site go a long way. For competitive national terms, links matter more and take longer to earn.
How do I know if my existing links are harmful?
Search Console lists the sites linking to you. A handful of odd links is normal. A sudden flood of spammy ones, or a manual action message, is worth a closer look.
Can you guarantee a number of links?
No. Earned links cannot be guaranteed, and a promised number usually means the links are being bought.
What does your evaluation say about links?
It flags what you have, what is broken and where the realistic opportunities sit, ranked by effort. It is free and has no obligation.
