Ecommerce AI SEO: what to do with product and collection pages.
By Vijay Ara, Founder, BizIntegra Truro, Nova Scotia Updated October 25, 2026
If you are looking for an ecommerce AI SEO agency, start with this: AI assistants and shopping answers still depend on your product data and page content, and mass-produced AI copy is the quickest way to weaken both.

What AI answers take from a store
When someone asks an assistant for a waterproof jacket under $200, or a gift for a coffee lover, the answer is assembled from product feeds, reviews, comparison pages and the text on store pages. Your job is to make your own pages the clearest source.
Check what you currently send out. Open a handful of product pages and read them as a stranger would. Check that the key facts sit in the visible text, that the variant you are selling is obvious, and that shipping to Canada and returns are easy to find. Gaps here cost sales whether or not any assistant is involved.
That means accurate names, prices, availability, sizes, materials and shipping information, in text a machine can read and a customer can trust. We cannot see inside any assistant, so treat anyone who claims to control what it says with caution.
The trouble with AI-written product copy
Generating 2,000 descriptions in an afternoon is tempting. The results tend to be bland, repetitive and sometimes wrong: invented materials, wrong dimensions, claims you cannot support. A product that is described as waterproof when it is only water-resistant is a complaint waiting to happen.
There is a customer cost, because wrong details mean returns and complaints. There is also a search cost. Hundreds of near-identical descriptions give Google and AI systems nothing to tell your pages apart from every other store selling the same item.
If you use AI tools at all, treat output as a rough first draft, and have someone who knows the product check every fact.
A practical rule: if a sentence could appear on any competitor's page unchanged, it is not helping you. Replace it with something only your store can say, such as where the item is packed, how long it lasts in your experience, or what you would suggest instead.
What to do instead
Start with your best sellers and the pages that already get traffic. Write those by hand, from what you know: who it suits, what it is made of, how it compares with the cheaper option, what customers ask before buying.
Add real specifications in plain text, not only in images. Use your own photos. Show real reviews. If a competitor sells the same item, your page needs one thing theirs lacks, such as a fit guide, a size chart in text, a care note, or a straight comparison between your own two best options. Answer returns, sizing and delivery questions on the page, since those are the questions assistants are asked.
Collection pages deserve more attention
Collections are where searches like running shoes for flat feet or gifts under $50 land. Most stores leave them as a grid of products with one line of text.
Add a short, useful intro that explains how to choose. Keep filter URLs out of the index unless they match real demand, and use canonical tags so variants do not compete with each other. Link related collections to each other so the structure is clear.
Watch pagination and sorting parameters as well. Pages two, three and ten of a collection rarely need to rank, but they must stay crawlable so products get discovered. Test in Search Console rather than guessing.
Structured data and feeds
Product schema should match what is visible on the page: price, availability, brand, identifiers and review data. Mismatches between markup and page are a common reason for errors in Search Console and Google Merchant Center.
Keep your product data tidy at the source, including titles, categories and variant handling. On Shopify, many of these problems come from theme and app choices, which is also where we can fix them. See our Shopify and ecommerce SEO pages.
Let customers write the useful part
Reviews and customer questions are the content AI systems and shoppers trust most, because you did not write them. Make it easy to leave a review after delivery, and answer questions publicly on the product page.
Pull the common ones into the description itself. If three people ask whether a boot runs narrow, say so. That one honest sentence does more than a paragraph of generated enthusiasm.
What we do and do not do
We offer ecommerce and Shopify SEO, on-page and content work, technical SEO and AI search as part of our SEO services. We are a founder-led studio in Truro, Nova Scotia, serving stores across Canada.
We will not mass-produce product copy for you, and we do not guarantee rankings or placement in AI answers. Technical fixes can show in weeks, competitive terms usually take months. If you want to see where your store stands first, the free SEO evaluation ranks the fixes by impact.
Questions
Is it safe to use AI to write product descriptions?
Only with careful human review. Check every fact, rewrite anything generic and avoid publishing hundreds of near-identical pages.
How do I get my products into AI shopping answers?
No one can promise it. Accurate product data, a clean feed, good reviews and clear pages give you the best chance.
Which pages should I fix first?
Best sellers, pages with existing traffic and your main collections. The free SEO evaluation ranks them for you.
Do you work with stores outside Shopify?
Yes for SEO review and content. Check with us on the specific platform; Shopify is where we do the most.
