Local SEO for electricians.
By Vijay Ara, Founder, BizIntegra Truro, Nova Scotia Updated October 25, 2026
Most electrician work starts with a phone search from someone nearby. Local SEO for electricians is about being in that short list, with a profile and pages that make the call easy.

- The Google Business Profile setup that matters
- Service pages and area pages
- Reviews and licence details
- Emergency and after-hours searches
A breaker trips on a Sunday night
Picture the search. Someone has lost power in half the house, picks up a phone and types "electrician near me" or the name of their town. They tap one of the first three results in the map pack and call. They do not read your About page.
That is the job local SEO does for a trade. It decides whether you are in those three, and whether what the customer sees in the first five seconds says: call here.
Local SEO for electricians starts with categories
Your primary category carries the most weight, so pick the one that matches your main work, usually Electrician. Add secondary categories only for work you really do, such as lighting contractor or electrical installation service.
Then use the services section. List the jobs people ask for: panel upgrades, EV charger installs, knob and tube replacement, pot lights, generator hookups, inspection repairs. Write one clear sentence for each, in plain words.
Keep the business name exactly as it appears on your truck and invoices. Stuffing keywords into the name is a known way to get a profile suspended.
One page per service, one page per area
A single "Services" page cannot rank for panel upgrades and for EV chargers at once. Give each major job its own page covering what is involved, what the customer should know before a visit and how to book.
If you serve several towns, build a page for each place you really work. Write something specific to it: the housing stock, the common problems in older homes, the neighbourhoods you cover. Identical text with the town name swapped is thin content and tends to be ignored.
Show your licence and who answers the phone
Customers let electricians into their homes and near their panels, so trust matters. Show your licence or contractor number, your insurance and any association memberships, in the form your province allows, on the home page and the contact page.
Put the phone number at the top of every page and make it tap to call on mobile. A photo of your actual team beats a stock image of a hard hat.
Citations and consistency
Your name, address and phone number should read the same on your website, your Google profile and the main business directories you appear in. Small differences such as "Ltd." in one place and nothing in another confuse matching and can split your reputation across two records.
Start with the directories your customers really use, and skip the long lists of obscure sites. Claim and correct the main ones, then stop. Dozens of low-quality listings add upkeep and little else.
Reviews, photos and posts
Reviews on your Google profile affect both ranking and clicks. Ask after every finished job, while the customer is still pleased, with a direct link to your review form sent by text.
Reply to every review, including the poor ones, calmly and briefly. Do not buy reviews and do not offer discounts in exchange for them. Both risk removal, and Google publishes its own review policies, so read the current version.
Do not chase volume at the cost of honesty. Ten recent, specific reviews outweigh fifty vague ones from two years ago, so make asking part of the job closing routine rather than a one-off campaign.
Upload real photos of finished jobs: the clean panel, the tidy conduit run, the installed charger. Add a short caption naming the type of work and the area. Customers cannot judge wiring, but they can judge whether a business looks careful.
Use Google profile posts for seasonal offers and reminders, such as a pre-winter safety check or a heads-up that you are booking EV charger installs. Keep the posts short, honest and tied to something you actually do.
Never post photos of a customer's home without their permission, and never show the address.
Seasonality and emergency searches
Demand moves with the calendar. Storm season brings outage and surge calls, cold months bring heating loads and panel trouble, and spring and summer bring renovation, deck, pool and EV charger work. Update your pages and profile posts before each period, not during it.
If you take emergency calls, say so clearly, with your real hours. Claim 24-hour service only if a person truly answers. A profile that promises it and sends callers to voicemail collects the kind of review nobody wants.
Pay attention to the questions you hear in the first call, too. If customers keep asking whether you handle aluminum wiring or ungrounded outlets, that is a page waiting to be written. Search behaviour usually starts as a question someone says out loud.
Keep a note of the jobs that pay best and the ones you would rather not do. A profile and a site that describe only the first group will quietly steer your phone toward better work.
What we would and would not do for you
For most owner-run electrical businesses we would start with a free SEO evaluation of the profile and the site, then set the order of work. Ongoing help is optional, with no retainer to sign.
We do not sell link packages or run ads. If the site itself is the problem, local SEO and a rebuild can go together, and our electrician website design guide covers what that site needs.
Questions
How do I rank in the Google map pack as an electrician?
A complete and accurate profile, the right primary category, steady reviews, a website whose address and phone match the profile, and pages for the work and areas you cover.
Should I show my home address on Google?
If customers do not visit you, you can hide the address and set a service area. Check Google's current guidelines for service-area businesses.
Do I need a page for every town?
Only for places you actually serve, and each page needs unique, useful content.
How long until the phone rings more?
Profile fixes can show in weeks. Competitive areas usually take months. Nobody can guarantee a position.
