Legal SEO services for law firms.

By Vijay Ara, Founder, BizIntegra Truro, Nova Scotia Updated October 25, 2026

Legal SEO services start with matters, not keywords

People do not search for a law firm in general. They search for a problem: a separation, a wrongful dismissal, a real estate closing, a charge, a will. Legal SEO starts by listing the matters your firm wants more of, then deciding which ones deserve a page of their own.

This is where many firm sites fall short. A single page called "Practice Areas" with a bullet list cannot rank for twelve different problems. Each matter you want needs its own page, with a clear heading, a plain description of how the process works, and an obvious way to reach you.

It also means saying no to some topics. If your firm does not take criminal files, do not write about them just because the search volume looks good. Pages for work you refuse bring calls you will have to turn away.

Treat the list as a working document: review it every quarter, after you see which matters turn into real clients.

What a good practice-area page contains

Write for the worried reader first. Explain what usually happens in this type of matter, roughly in what order, and what the client will be asked to bring to a first meeting. Use the words a client would use, not only the words the statute uses.

Name the city, and the court or tribunal level, only where it is true and useful. A family lawyer in Halifax and one in Moncton are not interchangeable, and the page should say where you practise.

Add the lawyer who handles the matter, a short bio and a direct phone line. A page with a named person and a number reads as a real office. A generic contact form on its own reads as a funnel.

Trust signals that belong on the page

Legal is a high-stakes search, so visitors look for proof you are who you say you are. Show your bar admission or licence details in the way your regulator permits, the office address, the names of the lawyers and, if you have one, a photo of the office or team.

Reviews matter too, but handle them with care. Ask clients for a Google review only in line with your own rules, and never write, buy or trade for reviews. A small number of honest reviews beats a long list that looks manufactured.

Content that answers the first call

The best-performing legal pages tend to answer what a receptionist hears all day: how long the process takes, whether the client must attend in person, and what a first meeting involves. Where a fee structure can lawfully be described, say how it works. Where it cannot, say how the client finds out.

Build a short set of articles around those questions and link each one to the matching practice-area page. A reader who learns something useful from a guide is far more likely to pick up the phone than one who lands cold on a service page.

Date your content and have a lawyer at the firm review it. Law changes, and an out-of-date page about limitation periods or filing steps does more harm than no page at all. Mark the review date on the page so readers and search engines can see it is maintained.

Advertising rules differ by province

Law societies set their own rules for how lawyers advertise and describe their services, and the rules are not the same in every province. Words such as "specialist" or "expert", client testimonials, and comparisons with other firms can be treated differently depending on where you are licensed.

We do not give legal compliance advice. Before any page, profile or review request goes live, check it against your own law society's current rules, or ask whoever at your firm handles professional standards. We will build the pages around what you tell us is allowed, and we will flag anything we are unsure about rather than guess.

Google Business Profile and local search

Many legal searches carry local intent, so your Google Business Profile does real work. Pick the primary category that matches your main practice, add secondary categories only where they are true, keep your hours current and match the address exactly to the one on your website.

If you have more than one office, each office needs its own profile and its own location page with unique content. Copying one page and swapping the city name is the quickest way to get ignored.

The technical side that gets skipped

Law firm sites are often old, slow on a phone and built from a template with thin text. Check that every page loads quickly on mobile, that titles and headings differ from page to page, and that the site runs on HTTPS with a sitemap submitted in Search Console.

Schema markup for a legal service or local business helps search engines read the page, though it will not rescue weak content. Treat it as a finishing step, not a strategy.

Lawyer SEO consulting, and how to measure it

For a smaller firm, a one-time review often makes more sense than a retainer. We look at your site, your profile and the firms ranking in your city, then rank the fixes by impact. Ongoing work is optional and never bundled.

We never guarantee rankings. Technical fixes can show in weeks, competitive legal terms usually take months, and any provider who promises a position is promising something they do not control.

Rankings are a poor scoreboard. A firm can sit first for a term nobody uses to hire a lawyer. Track phone calls, form submissions, and where they came from, and ask every new client how they found you.

Set up call tracking if your phone system allows it, and read Search Console monthly to see which pages gain impressions for which searches. Ten calls from the right matters beat a hundred visits from students and researchers.

Be patient but not blind. If six months pass with no movement on pages you have improved, the plan needs changing, not more time. A good consultant will tell you that rather than keep billing.

Questions

What do legal SEO services include?

Mostly practice-area pages, local profiles and location pages, trust details on the site, technical fixes and honest reporting on calls and form inquiries. We do not sell backlink packages.

Can a law firm ask clients for Google reviews?

Often yes, but the rules on testimonials and on how you ask depend on your province and law society. Check your own rules before you start.

How long does lawyer SEO consulting take to show results?

Technical fixes can show in weeks. Competitive terms in a large city usually take months, and nobody can guarantee a ranking.

Do you give legal advertising compliance advice?

No. We build to your instructions and ask you to confirm anything sensitive with your law society.
